The Kaiwhakahaere Whiria is a leadership role responsible for weaving together marketing, communications, engagement and events to strengthen connections across Te Kāhui o Taranaki. Grounded in tikanga Māori and guided by our values, you'll ensure everything we put into the world reflects the identity, aspirations and voice of whānau, hapū and iwi.


Leading the Communications and Engagement teams, you'll deliver integrated strategies, kaupapa-driven events, and meaningful engagement initiatives that build strong relationships and enhance iwi visibility and wellbeing.


Overview

Ngā kawenga matua | Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead integrated marketing, communications, engagement and events strategies
  • Lead, mentor and develop the Marketing, Communications, Events and Engagement team
  • Oversee multi-channel communications — digital, social media, pānui, print and media
  • Lead iwi storytelling to elevate the voice, history and aspirations of Taranaki Iwi
  • Design and implement engagement strategies that strengthen relationships with whānau, hapū and stakeholders
  • Lead the planning and delivery of events that celebrate iwi identity and bring people together
  • Protect and enhance the reputation, brand and integrity of Te Kāhui o Taranaki
  • Provide strategic advice to leadership, and contribute to Board and management reporting


Requirements

Ko wai koe | About you:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in marketing, communications, engagement, or a related field
  • Strong understanding of te reo Māori me ōna tikanga and te ao Māori
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver integrated strategies
  • Experience leading teams and managing multiple workstreams
  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement capability
  • Experience delivering events and engagement initiatives
  • Experience working within kaupapa Māori, including with whānau, iwi, marae and/or hapū
  • IAP2A Engagement qualification or similar preferred but not essential
