Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this position:


The Kaiwhakahaere Tiria leads the operational delivery of the Whare Tūranga Kōrero (WTK) Strategy — translating strategy into action through cultural programmes, wānanga, resource development, cultural content creation, and knowledge preservation.


You'll work alongside the Pou Whakatoka as a cultural advisor, facilitator and practitioner, ensuring Taranakitanga is visible, accessible and lived through everything Te Kāhui o Taranaki does. This includes leadership across cultural delivery, knowledge management, archive development, whakapapa initiatives, and succession-focused learning environments — including the Taranaki Tūpuna List and Takapou Wānanga.


Overview

Ngā kawenga matua | Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead delivery of the WTK Strategy and annual work programmes
  • Develop and deliver cultural learning opportunities, including Taiohi Wānanga and Kāhui Pāhake
  • Lead development of cultural archives, knowledge repositories and digital storytelling platforms
  • Support reo revitalisation initiatives and the development of cultural mentor networks
  • Provide cultural advice and support across the organisation, including pōwhiri and whakatau
  • Maintain relationships with pāhake, cultural practitioners, and knowledge holders
  • Contribute to Board and management reporting, and support funding applications


Requirements

Ko wai koe | About you:

  • In-depth knowledge of Taranaki Iwi history, tikanga and mātauranga
  • Proficiency in Te Reo Māori
  • Experience facilitating wānanga and cultural learning environments
  • Experience developing educational resources and cultural content
  • Strong relationship management skills, comfortable working with pāhake, taiohi, whānau, hapū and marae
  • Highly organised, able to manage multiple kaupapa concurrently
  • Demonstrated cultural leadership through action and service
