The Role
We’re looking for a compassionate and motivated Support Worker to join our amazing Taranaki team. This is a casual role involving weekends and sleepovers; you will be working across a range of services to cover short-term vacancies.
The people you support value kindness, consistency, and building strong relationships with the people around them. Your role will be to promote their independence, respect their routines, and support them to continue living a full and connected life in their community. They enjoy a range of activities, especially the outdoors and going for walks.
Requirements
About You
We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative individual who is actively engaged in the New Plymouth community. While having a background or interest in autism and intellectual disabilities is beneficial, an eagerness to learn is equally important. A commitment to making a positive impact on people's lives, community engagement, and strong non-verbal and verbal communication skills will make you a great fit for this role.
To succeed, you will need strong relationship-building skills, a calm and compassionate demeanor, and excellent communication skills. You would also need to enjoy the outdoors and be physically fit, as there’s a lot of walking and encouraging some individuals to stay physically fit.
Essential criteria for this role:
- Full NZ Driver's Licence
- Legal right to work in New Zealand
- Willingness to undergo criminal and Oranga Tamariki checks
- Availability to work weekend and overnight shifts
Desirable:
- Knowledge of disability and an understanding of challenging behaviour
- A drive to help people succeed in their wider community
- Understanding of autism
