The PPT is hiring! We have three permanent roles we are seeking to fill within our operational team.  

The Tari's role is to deliver outcomes set by Trustees and endorsed by the Parihaka community. 

Our priorities relate to Parihaka tikanga, people and whenua.  

We are a small team motivated to contribute to Parihaka’s development and wellbeing.  This is an opportunity for you to be part of this mahi.


Overview

The Parihaka Papakāinga Trust is responsible for the care and management of Parihaka and includes progressing projects laid out in its development plan, on behalf of residents, beneficiaries and followers of Tohu Kākahi and Te Whiti o Rongomai. The projects are grouped under three pou, Parihaka Tikanga,

Parihaka Whenua and Parihaka Tangata.

Your day-to-day work involves delivery of activities as specified under Pou Tikanga in the Trust’s Annual Plan and 5 year Strategic Plan.

Current projects include implementation of the Parihaka Revitalisation Strategy, management of taongarelated initiatives and delivery and expansion of a Parihaka Mai Ai education programme, support and enable Te Tikanga o Parihaka (under the oversight of the Pou Hautū and with advice from Kawe Tikanga), relationship Role Description: Taki Hautū Tikanga, April 2026 Parihaka Papakāinga Trust – Page 2 management with iwi, communities and partner agencies, and supporting the Trust’s tikanga-based approach to welcoming and engaging visitors to Parihaka.


DUTIES:

  • Delivery of tikanga-led projects, including the Parihaka Revitalisation Strategy, Parihaka Mai Ai and taonga-related initiatives.
  • Provide governance and secretariat support to Kawe Tikanga, including advice and reporting to support sound decision making including advice, reporting, and decision support.
  • Support and enable Te Tikanga o Parihaka and tikanga based practices within the PPT Tari.
  • Identify options to grow education initiatives across early learning, schools, and tertiary settings. Build and manage relationships across whānau, community, contractors, educators, funders and government partners. 




Requirements

CAPABILITIES:

  • Skilled in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga, with confidence operating in iwi, hapū, and whānau Māori contexts and applying knowledge of Parihaka kaupapa.
  • Solid understanding of Māori organisational and governance structures, including experience supporting boards or trusts.
  • Confident relationship manager, able to engage effectively with whānau and community, contractors, education providers, students, and government partners.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal (facilitation, presenting, public speaking) and written (governance and stakeholder reporting).
  • Highly organised and able to self-manage, prioritise competing demands, and work to deadlines.
  • Competent and adaptable in digital and IT systems, including Microsoft Office and platforms such as BoardPro, Smartsheet, and Canva.

QUALITIES:

  • Responsive and able to adapt to changing priorities and kaupapa.
  • Respectful and values-driven, with a deep regard for people, tikanga, and lived realities.
  • Trustworthy and discreet, demonstrating active listening and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Collaborative, comfortable working in a small team, whether leading, contributing or learning.
  • Well organised and self-aware, able to self-manage, meet timeframes, and maintain personal wellbeing.

Parihaka is nearing the completion of a major infrastructure project that, once complete, will see the papakāinga positioned and ready to advance its moemoea and aspirations for the future. To enable Parihaka to advance those aspirations in a timely way, the Parihaka Papakāinga Trust is embarking on a recruitment programme to facilitate and deliver our projected growth and development.  Parihaka Papakāinga Trust is excited to invite applications to join the team on our haerenga whakamua.
