Mō te tūranga | About the role
The Tiaki Ūkaipō Lactation Consultant enhances the normal process of lactation and supports the prevention, assessment, and management of lactation challenges. The role protects, promotes, and supports breastfeeding at both individual and community levels, with a strong focus on Māori, low socio-economic, and young mothers and whānau in Taranaki. The position actively contributes to Baby Friendly Community Initiative (BFCI) practices and collaborates with both Tui Ora and external partners to improve breastfeeding outcomes for priority communities.

Requirements
Kia ekena a angitū | To promote success in this role, you will have
- Current accreditation as International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
- Adult Education experience and qualification, preferred
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in breastfeeding support
- A commitment to ongoing professional development
- Strong knowledge of local maternity and community health services
- Skill in adult education and delivering group sessions
- Effective communicator, both written and verbal
- Knowledge of Māori health models and Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally responsive
- Experience and confident using Microsoft Office and client management systems
- Experience building strong professional relationships and works collaboratively
- Sound decision-making skills, a critical thinker and have risk awareness
- Empathy, be trustworthy, and community-focused
- Demonstrated understanding of tikanga Māori and commitment to Te Reo me ngā Tikanga Māori
- A full, clean NZ Driver Licence.
